Ready for Christmas

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was wonderful. Peaceful. Relaxing. {Mostly.} Though I missed my parents and my siblings and their families. It’s hard being far away sometimes. I’m jealous of their big Thanksgiving dinners with cousins and grandparents. But I’m thankful for good friends to spend the holidays with.

I’ve enjoyed spending the last few days focused on my family. Cleaning, baking, organizing, playing games, and watching movies. There is nothing better than the time I get to spend with my husband and children. Especially if it involves eating and relaxing. Ahem. I mean quality time together. *wink*

Tonight we watched the Jim Carrey version of A Christmas Carol. Great movie! And earlier today when it was discovered that half our Christmas Tree lights were burnt out, my eldest son and I braved a trip to Walmart to get new ones. We had a great time. Did you see me? I was the one still in my workout clothes from this morning, hair pulled back, flip flops and a hoodie. Stylin’, I know. Jacob didn’t even seem embarrassed to be seen with me. He’s cool like that. Our trip for Christmas Lights turned into a $255.00 outing. Does that happen to you too? But we got the entire Lord of the Rings DVD set for $6! I couldn’t resist! {I’m not sure where the other $249.00 went.}

Today we continued our tradition of Day after Thanksgiving Christmas Decorating. We do it every year. I love decorating the tree. It’s my favorite part. There is a memory associated with each ornament. We have some really great ones {memories and ornaments}. We each seem to have our favorites. Jake loves the handblown glass ones he got in Venice, Italy. I love the ones we get on our travels. Washington D.C., Houston, Seattle, Philadelphia, Disneyland… And the boys love the ones that their grandma gets them each year.

This year was Miss B’s first participating in the tradition. She loved it. And we loved sharing it with her. We are now officially ready for Christmas. At least our house is…

What about you? Have you decorated yet?

Dahlia O'Neil - I love these photos – indeed they are warm! Two questions: what is the term called when the lights are out of focus and make those beautiful golden circles? It’s wonderful, and I wish my point-and-shoot did that ;) Also, where did you get Miss B’s outfit? I LOVE her shirt and cardigan – LOVE it!!!

admin - Hi Dahlia! Thanks for commenting! I think the term you are referring to is Bokeh. And I love it too! It is harder to get with a point and shoot, but if you put the object you are focusing on closer to the camera and the lights much further back, you may be able to get a similar look. Let me know if you try it! And Miss B’s outfit is from Gap Kids. I just love the ruffles! You may even find it on sale this weekend!

Kimberly - I love the pictures. It makes me excited to get my Christmas decorations out and deck the house with holiday decor. You are such a great photographer, and I love looking at your blog.

Lynn Wheeler - Feeling truly inspired to pull out the decorations for the first time in five years. Thank you!

Amanda - Love the pictures! We too had a VERY relaxing weekend, (other than my blow up over no one helping with the dishes :))
We also watched Jim Carey’s Christmas Carol, and have decided that will be our next family evening reading book. Just finished Tale of Despereux, started Where the Red Fern Grows and will finish December with A Christmas Carol.
And no we have not decorated yet. Tomorrow after church will be a climb into storage to see if we moved the tree with us or not.
Miss and love you!
