The opportunity to capture my family each month and share them with you. Each session inspired by a different theme.
A time for me to push myself as a photographer and try new things. I’ll also be linking to other photographers who are a part of Project.12.
You can check out their spin on the theme and learn a little more about them and their families.
At first glance, Project.12 seems an easy enough task. One session, once a month. What’s the big deal?
Well, the big deal is L I F E. And lately it seems I have plenty of life going on. Our regularly scheduled program is daunting enough: four children. homeschool. boy scouts. church. weekly youth activities. piano lessons. swim team. 52 dresses. simply b’s workshops and photo sessions.
You see? On it’s own, it’s a lot. But this month we also moved into our new house. And this weekend I’m hosting photographers from around the country for A Day With Amy: PRO. Our schedule has been thrown into overdrive.
Today I went – OH! Project.12! Right. I need to get on that.
And now you know a bit about my inner workings. I would like to appear as if I have it all together. You know, organized. But in reality, I’m just working really hard to keep everything from collapsing at my feet.
This project seems like a small thing, but it’s a big deal to me. Each month I take thousands of images of Miss B. I’m showing off new images of her practically every day! But Project.12 is my commitment to capture the rest of family every single month. I’m hoping that every month won’t consist of me rushing to fulfill the project, but I can’t say for certain that it won’t happen. And in a way, I suppose that’s okay. Because that’s where I am in life. I’m a busy mom, wife, business owner. My life is chaotic, not calm. Stressful, not serene. It’s also joyful, beautiful, and brings me incredible happiness. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I’m also lucky I have a great team that backs me up every. single. day. So when I say to Joshua (my middle son) Hey! I want to take pictures of you today. He says, Sure Mom. How can I help?.
The theme this month is apples. After highlighting Jacob last month, this month I wanted to spotlight Josh. I was drawing a blank on the concept until my husband suggested I go outside the box and think Apple, Inc. rather than Grannie Smith. Bingo! That made much more sense for Joshua.
A little about Josh: he’s 12 years old, almost 6′ tall, and he sings like a bird. He just earned his First Class rank in Boy Scouts. He has the funniest sense of humor and constantly has us laughing. He’s smart as a whip, has a tender heart, and stunning blue eyes. He’s a loyal friend and an adventurer. He has grand ambitions in life and I believe he will fulfill them all.
This year he’s transitioned into a remarkable young man. It’s been a pleasure to watch as he’s stretched and grown into himself. He’s attending Williamsburg Intermediate (an online school) this year and has found his stride. He just finished reading The Hobbit and he’s writing a screenplay for a film he’s directing.
He attends school each day on an Apple laptop and spends hours writing, researching, and studying. This Apple, Inc. theme fit him very well.
Moving into our new home we knew we wanted a space conducive for study and work. It needed to be organized, welcoming, and enjoyable. I’m in love with our new family office where we can gather to work together or separately. It’s perfect for us!
I hope you enjoy watching Project.12 unfold as much as I enjoy documenting it.
