I’ve been teaching A Day With Amy Photography Workshops for three years and I just love it! During that time I’ve taught over 300 people how to use their cameras to capture moments that they love and cherish. One of my favorite things about this workshop is that we have a Facebook group for the alumni where they can share images, ask questions, support and be supported. I adore watching their progress and I’m so proud of all of them! They have put in the hard work and practice that it takes and are now creating breathtaking images! Some use their skills to photograph their children, some photograph friends and family, and others have started businesses!
I’d like to introduce Brandi Anderson from Mobile, Alabama!
1. Can you start by telling us a little about who you are and how you got involved with photography?
I began to get involved in photography when my son turned 6 months old. I took at least one picture of him a day for the entire first year of his life. After I bought my DSLR in October of 2012, I used it on Auto for 5 months until I took your class in January.
2. How did taking A Day With Amy: Inclusive help you with your photography journey?
The day after I took A Day With Amy I set up a photography page to practice my photography and for my family to see the pictures I took of my son. Before I knew it, I had many requests for pictures of their children. It has really been a whirlwind experience. I now have atleast 50 new inquires per month! I really could not have done it without Amy’s class. Before I would just get frustrated when I could see the picture I wanted but I could never get it. Now I can get the image I see!
3. What equipment do you use? Do you have a lens that you prefer? Any equipment you are drooling over?
I recently upgraded to a Sony A99. I also own a 50mm 1.4 full frame lens that I use 99% of the time. Right now I am really wanting a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. I feel that this would give me some extra flexibility.
4. You own a photography business in Mobile, Alabama, which is flourishing! What are your favorite subjects to shoot?
Right now I am mostly photographing children ages Newborn-2 Years. I also do many family sessions! I love the babies because I have one this age and I understand why these images are so important to the parents :).
5. What are your goals with photography?
My goals with photography is to first stabilize my business. I want to come up with packages and prices that allow me to focus on each session individually. Another goal is to become a master of exposure and white balance. Shooting in RAW allows me to fix most all exposure and white balance issues in Photoshop; however, I would love to become an expert on getting it right in the camera. I also want to learn how to better the capture the natural settings. Many of my pictures are posed which families love and want, but I find it more difficult to catch the posed but un-posed moments if you know what I mean.
Thank you Brandi for sharing with us! Your work is stunning and I’m a huge fan! I’ve loved watching you and your business grow over the last year! You are amazing! Make sure you check out Brandi’s Facebook page!!
