I’ve been teaching A Day With Amy Photography Workshops for three years and I just love it! During that time I’ve taught over 300 people how to use their cameras to capture moments that they love and cherish. One of my favorite things about this workshop is that we have a Facebook group for the alumni where they can share images, ask questions, support and be supported. I adore watching their progress and I’m so proud of all of them! They have put in the hard work and practice that it takes and are now creating breathtaking images! Some use their skills to photograph their children, some photograph friends and family, and others have started businesses!

I’d like to take a moment to introduce Samantha Brown, owner of Samantha Brown Photography in Brownsville, Tennessee! Thank you so much for sharing with us today Samantha!!
What motivated you to pick up a camera and get started shooting?
I have always loved photography and as far back as I can remember I was always taking pictures, I mean always haha !! I think I still have a few shoe boxes full of photos that I took of trees, sunsets and anything random that I thought might make a great picture. I will have to say that my constant motivation is my children !! The day they were born opened up more of a love for photography than I ever imagined.
How did attending A Day With Amy: Inclusive help you in your photography journey?
Amy’s class helped me on my journey by waking me up !! I thought I knew what I was doing and I did get it right occasionally but I knew I needed a push in the right direction. I knew a few things about manual mode and got it right maybe once or twice(pure luck). I read blogs and played with my camera but taking this class was the best thing I have ever done !! I can’t say thank you enough !!
Here are a few of Samantha’s ‘before’ pictures.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very classic I guess you can say. I love trying all kinds of things from vintage, modern and the simple rustic look. I’m always up for a challenge !!
What is your current favorite image and why?
My current favorite image has to be of a recent newborn. He started to smile and then he would fall back asleep and this went on for a few minutes. He finally smiled and it wasn’t just a little smile, it was a huge open mouthed smile with his little dimples showing !! I was so ecstatic that I captured that and so was the mother !! I had it printed into a canvas and it hangs in my studio.
What are your photography goals for 2014?
My goals for 2014 are to be a little more organized and to get my studio designed the way I want it. I love to learn so I think I will also try out a few more workshops to keep myself up to date as well.
If you had to choose only one type of photography (newborn, family, wedding, etc) to shoot, which would it be and why?
It is really hard to choose just one since I love family sessions and kiddos but I would have to say Newborns. I love their tiny little fingers and toes. The sleepy positions and the joy I get from swaddling and cuddling with those sweet bundles.
What equipment do you shoot with? Do you have a favorite lens is? Is there any equipment you are drooling over?
I currently shoot with a Canon 60D I have had it for a while and in need of an upgrade but I still love it. My primary lens in my 50mm f/1.8 and it is my favorite. I have my eye on the 35mm f/1.4 and the 24-70mm f/2.8 along with the Canon 5D Mark iii. I have my fingers crossed to get them this year.
I want to thank you Amy again for this amazing class !! You will never know how much it meant to me to learn from such an inspirational woman like you !!
Wow! What a great compliment! Thank you Samantha! It’s been such a joy to work with you! And these images? Absolutely stunning! Your hard work and dedication have paid off! Thank you so much for being a part of A Day With Amy!
