About the Class
Hi! I’m Amy. I started Simply b Photos a little over two years ago in Kodiak, Alaska. It’s been a whirlwind of an adventure! I love everything about what I do. I’ve learned a lot since I got my first camera. I want to pass what I’ve learned on to you! When my new fancy camera arrived in the mail I wasn’t even sure how to change the lens! I started taking pictures but I had no idea what aperture, shutter speed, or ISO were. Nor how they affected my images. I’d catch a great shot but have no idea how I got it, or how to recreate it. I called them happy accidents. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Does that sound familiar? If so, this class is for you!
I love sharing what I’ve learned about photography. The Day With Amy Workshops have been the highlight of my year. They are such a great time.
- Would you like to learn how to tell a story with your images rather than constantly taking snapshots? I love studio sessions, but the images that I will treasure for years to come will be those that remind me what life was like with my children.
- Do you have a camera that you aren’t quite sure how to use? Or what all the buttons mean? Or how to use your camera in a mode other than AUTO?
- Do you have trouble finding great lighting?
- Are you missing that extra special something from your images?
Then you will love the workshop too!
For those with a DSLR (a camera you can change the lenses on and switch from AUTO to A, AV, S, TV, etc) who want to go beyond the world of AUTO and learn what their camera can really do. We’ll start with the basics of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and different lenses. And then we’ll cover metering, composition, lighting, and posing. It’s all taught in a manner that when you are finished, you will be able to use your camera outside of auto mode! But it won’t all be technical stuff. We’ll talk about capturing the images that tell your family’s story. I’ll share all the little tips I’ve spent the last year learning and give you details on how I got started. There is plenty to learn! By the end of the day you’ll know more about how to create images of your family that will be treasured for a lifetime. You’ll see your role as photographer in a different light.
I’ll be focusing on portrait photography… that’s what I know. After class you are welcome to stay and ask questions or receive one on one time to learn how to use your camera better. You will also take home a digital copy of my Day with Amy Workshop Workbook (filled with all the information that I cover in class) and cheat sheets for your camera with step by step instructions on how to use your camera in manual. Afterwards you will be invited to the Day With Amy Facebook group where you can ask questions, post pictures, find support and make friends with others who have attended the workshops and are improving their photography skills.

What People Are Saying:
I am finally metering and shooting in manual with confidence. What a difference it has made in my photos! I just took my personal family’s portraits complete with remote and tripod and I did it ALL on manual cause your class gave me the confidence. ~ Becky Dustin
After the workshop I havent stopped taking pictures!! I love using my camera in manual!! ~ Heather McGuyrt
Amy, thank you again for the awesome workshop! I learned more spending eight hours with you on how to take better pictures than I did in two semesters of college photography. Even my iphone photos are looking better! You truly have a knack for teaching.
~ Brenda Riley
I’ve been doing LOTS of practicing with my camera! I can’t thank you enough for your workshop! I’ve always had a passion for photography and now I’m getting the skills to go with it. And I haven’t taken it out of manual once since the workshop
~ Sarah Beck
Amy’s workshop was perfect for me. It was exactly everything I wanted. I had little to no experience in photography. I only knew how to point and shoot in automatic mode. Amy covers a lot of material in a short amount of time. She explains it in a way that any novice can understand. Her class provided the knowledge and confidence that I need to take high quality pictures of my husband and two young boys. Her tips on some key photography techniques for difficult settings are ones that would have taken me years to figure out simply by practicing on my own and researching the internet. The price is extremely reasonable for the knowledge gained. I highly recommend this class to all of my friends and family. ~ Jennifer Whitmore
I had the best time at the workshop! It was so much fun! I feel like I have such a solid understanding of my camera and how it operates now. I just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put into making the class. It’s such a relaxed atmosphere, no one feels uncomfortable about asking a “dumb question”. It allowed for maximum learning, with minimal stress. ~ Bambi Norris
Amy!!! I loved your workshop! Even with ten plus years of studio experience, I felt like I learned more in those few hours than I have in years! I left feeling inspired and eagar to experiment. You are warm and genuine and I was so impressed with your knowledge! You are truly gifted! Thank you for sharing your talent! ~ Lori Snegirev
I went to the class hoping to gain a better understanding of how to take amazing pictures with my camera and how shutter speed, ISO and so forth affect the picture. I sure learned all this and more!
Thanks to Amy (Simply b Photos), I now feel very confident about what I will actually be doing from now on! If you just got a camera, or have had one and would love to konw how to use it (FOR REAL), then contact Amy Earle, she is SUCH a great teacher, so real and encouraging. ~ Rhea Anne Photography

Love this Amy- Wish I could come. We’ll have to do a one on one when you come visit. I love you, you are such an inspiration to me.
Would love to talk to you more about this! Email me!
Hi Amy, My 13 year old daughter would love this class. Would it be appropriate for a mature teen?
Amy…when will you be in North Pole? Bouncing with excitement! My husband has leave the first full week in June and I need to come to this SO BAD!!! He has to put in a year in advance or I would totally make him change it so we will be in town.
I’m seriously interested in the June NP session!!!!

Emily and Becky, It would be so fun if you could come to the Photography Workshop!! Kim Lowry is hosting it. We haven’t finalized a date yet. Becky, when will you be out of town? I’ll see if we can’t work it around your schedule. We were thinking about the 4th of June. I do need to have a minimum of 6 people confirmed for the class before I can come up. There is a maximum of 9 people so that I can make sure to be able to help everyone on a personal level. So share it with your friends! And Emily, it is Jon Schmidt! I downloaded a lot of his stuff from iTunes. This particular song is Pachabel meets U2. Love him!
Hi Amy! I’d be interested in the one in North Pole. And I’d be willing to donate six smiley squirmey children to practice on!
I’m interested in the NP session!!!
June 4th would be good for me! My gma is turning 80 June 14th and I’m expected to be down there for a big birthday shebang sometime around there. Planning around your date-whenever you decide for sure-would help me get started on planning that trip’s dates!
Love to be a part of your NP photo session in May if there is a slot open for us. My family will possibly be your toughest customers, non smilers! and Can we get this overwith?!!! folks,, but I really would like a nice family photo to post on our wall for awhile. let me know what is available that day. Thanks! Sam
Oh man! No more Vegas “Day with Amy”.
Sad day.
Okay, so I’m getting the impression that you’re not coming to Vegas. So…I think I may be interested in your Sacramento day if you’re going there. When and IF you decide that you’re going to do one of these there, would you let me know!!
I have a new appreciation for your work. I do NOT have a clue how anyone figures out anything on these cameras. I’m sure you’re giggling right now having been where I am right now.
I could use any help and I’d love to get it from you my friend.
Love your photos. Great job, they are very inspiring.
Hi I am really interested in your Palmer July 16th class. Is there still room or has is filled up?
