I love Photoshop! I could not function without it. I use it for all my photo editing.
For those of you new to photo editing, Adobe offers a product called Photoshop Elements. It retails for $99 and often you can pick it up for less (I got mine for $60 at Amazon.com). With the power of Photoshop Elements, you can transform dull, drab images into works of art. The only downside is that for those new to editing in general and Photoshop in particular, it can be a little overwhelming. Often it is purchased with high hopes and then sits idol on a hard drive due to frustration and confusion over how to complete even the simplest of edits.
I’ve spent the last year and a half teaching A Day With Amy: Photography and have loved every minute of it. Teaching is my passion. I’m thrilled to now introduce A Day With Amy: Photoshop Elements! After attending A Day With Amy: Photoshop Elements you will stop stressing and start editing!
The premise of the workshop is this:
1. NO experience with Photoshop Elements is necessary. At all!
2. I’m here to help you transform your images through the tools available in Photoshop Elements and free downloads.
3. Class is taught online. You can participate from the privacy of your own home!
Online classes are so simple! It’s easy for you to connect and you don’t need any fancy equipment. You can even use an app on your iPad. (Contact me for more information on using your iPad.) You’ll be watching me on camera and you will also be able to see the screen on my computer.
One of the questions I receive the most is whether or not it matters if you have children around while you are taking the class. Here’s my perspective: I am a mother to 4. I work tirelessly to make sure my kiddos are busy doing something else while I’m teaching, but Miss B tends to wander in now and again and I may have to mute my mic while I holler at the boys to stop fighting. This is the life of a mother who works from home and I’m about as real as it comes. Lucky for you, you can choose whether or not you want to have your web cam turned on and your mic will typically be muted unless you are asking a question. Rest assured, we’re pretty chill in these parts.
4. You will attend two classes, one week apart from each other. This will give you time to practice what you’ve learned. The first class is two and a half hours, the second is two hours. That’s 4.5 hours of instruction!
5. You will receive a workbook with step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish several different types of edits.
6. After class, you will then be invited to join a Facebook group specifically for those who have attended the workshop to help support, teach and inspire one another.
7. Armed with the basics, you will better understand tutorials that you read online and be prepared to go further with your editing skills if you so desire, or you can stick to the simple steps that will turn your images from ordinary to extraordinary.
You will learn how to:
Navigate Photoshop Elements
Understand terms like “layer mask”, “blending mode”, “adjustment layer”
Use a variety of tools including the ones I use every time I edit
Add a “little pop” to your image
Brighten an underexposed image
Add text to an image
Make your image more crisp and sharp
Get beautiful smooth skin on your subjects
Bring out vibrant rich colors
Remove blemishes and distracting objects from your pictures
“Swap heads” to get everyone looking the right direction
Resize your image for Facebook or blogs
About my style of photo editing:
I edit all of my images. Adding a bit of sharpening, contrast, depth, light, etc. can turn an ordinary image into a piece of art. But to me, photo editing is like applying makeup. Less is typically more. When you look at an image of mine, I want you to first notice the subject and emotion of the photograph rather than the editing. If the first thing you notice is, “WOW! She’s great at Photoshop!” that isn’t the look I’m going for. The techniques I teach will be focused on how to make simple changes that will enhance and add to your image rather than overpower and degrade.
………………
NOTE: All classes will be taught using Photoshop Elements 10. If your version is older than Photoshop Elements 9, I suggest you upgrade, though it is not necessary. There are some great tools in the latest versions. You can also download a 30 day free trial for the class. You could then compare your version to see if it will work for you.
During the class you will be viewing my screen and watching me edit. Due to intermittent limited internet connectivity on our small Alaskan island, there is sometimes a slight delay from when I perform a task and you see it on your screen. I am able to see when the delay is happening and teach accordingly, but I want you to be aware of it beforehand.:)
To accomodate differing schedules, I have several different dates and times available. All times are Alaska time.
The introductory price for these classes is $100 per person.

Hi Amy, do you give work shops on photoshop cs3 that is the program I just down loaded on my computer? or do you know of any one who does.
A friend of mine, Betsy, recommended your online Photoshop class. However, I use Photoshop CS5. Would I still benefit from your Elements course? My husband bought CS5 for me and I have NO clue how to use it
.
Hi Jessica! I’m teaching a CS5 class next weekend! February 25th at 7pm AKST. Details above.
Lisa and Jessica, thank you for your question about Photoshop CS. Email me at amy@simplybphotos.com for more information about a class on Photoshop CS. I will be holding one shortly!
